WYANDOTTE — With a last name like Rose, becoming a florist was a no-brainer.First, though, Sharon Rose became a hair stylist. And it worked for a while. But as the saying goes, a Rose is a Rose is a flower who's a florist ... or something like that.

Rose is the owner of Honey B Flowers on Third Street in Wyandotte. Since 1987, she said she has provided the area with fresh flowers at reasonable prices.

"We take care of people's needs here," said Rose, who runs specials on roses most of the time and carries a wide variety of flowers.

"We sell service and experience. Not everyone can do this. It is a skill and looks great when it's done right."

Rose grew tired of designing hair and exchanged one set of clippers for another.

"I always liked working with flowers, so I just decided to make it my career and my hobby," she said. "I sold my hair salon in Allen Park, took a job with a florist in River Rouge and then opened my own store here in Wyandotte."

Her life has blossomed ever since.

"I love it," she said. "It's something different every day, and you get to meet new people every day."

As for weddings, the door is always open for Rose to bring color and elegance to a special occasion.

"We don't have set prices for weddings like some places," she said. "We have prices for someone who wants to do just daises to someone who wants roses and orchids.

"I will want to see the dress and what else they have planned, so we can match the flowers with the theme. I need to know what their look is before picking out what kind of flowers. This is a free consultation, and I am not afraid to be honest with people.

"If I don't like something, I will tell them. Of course, they have the final decision."

Rose's decision to become a florist also is final. And for her, obviously a good one.
